Marianne V. Downes (Reiner) passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10 at home surrounded by her loving family. Marianne was born in New York City on August 4, 1931, daughter of William S. and Marian K. Reiner. She was a longtime resident of New City moving here from the Bronx in 1960. She is survived by her adoring husband of 66 years, Thomas A. Downes Jr. and her eight devoted children, Jeanne (Pat) Woods, Tom III, Gerrianne Delaney (Ted Michelfelder), Bill (Marie), Terry (Laura), Bob (Gina), Jim (Jeannie) and Mary Pat (John Dale). Marianne V. Downes (Reiner) passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10 at home surrounded by her loving family. Marianne was born in New York City on August 4, 1931, daughter of William S. and Marian K. Reiner. She was a longtime resident of New City moving here from the Bronx in 1960. She is survived by her adoring husband of 66 years, Thomas A. Downes Jr. and her eight devoted children, Jeanne (Pat) Woods, Tom III, Gerrianne Delaney (Ted Michelfelder), Bill (Marie), Terry (Laura), Bob (Gina), Jim (Jeannie) and Mary Pat (John Dale). She was the amazing grandmother/ Nan to her fourteen grandchildren and 1 great grandchild who were the lights of her life: Christopher (Emree), Patrick (Sally and Schuyler) and Ryan (Molly) Woods, JT, Matt and Mikey Dale, Brian, Madeline, Kyle and Aidan Downes, Daniel and Christina Downes, Laurel (Adam) and Will English.

She is also survived by her beloved sister and best friend Eileen Kramer and sisters-in-law Anne Reiner and Jean Reiner. She was predeceased by her sister Vivian Henderson and her brothers William and Robert Reiner. Marianne leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will always remember Aunt Mare! She was a friend to everyone she met and taught us all how to "live our faith".

Marianne was a force of nature-always on the move, running to the next sporting event or school activity of her kids or grands of which she missed very few! She was very active in the community, member of Catholic Big Sisters, Albertus Magnus Mothers Club, Ladies Auxiliary American Legion and New City Seniors Club #1. She loved Bingo, shopping and the casinos.

Visiting hours will be Sunday, August 13, 7-9pm and Monday, August 14, 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 So. Main Street, New City, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Church, New City, NY on Tuesday, August 15 at 10:30 AM. Internment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Monsey, NY.
