John R. Bradley of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of New City passed away on May 13, 2017. Born in Greenpoint Brooklyn, NY on February 10th 1919, educated at New City Elementary, Congers High School and Textile High School in New York City. John Served in the US Army Air Corps. WWII from 1942 to 1945 (Rank of Sgt.), Member Squadron #1, Civil Air Patrol 1946 to 1950 (Rank of 2nd Lt.). John was a longtime resident of New City beginning in 1923. John R. Bradley of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of New City passed away on May 13, 2017. Born in Greenpoint Brooklyn, NY on February 10th 1919, educated at New City Elementary, Congers High School and Textile High School in New York City. John Served in the US Army Air Corps. WWII from 1942 to 1945 (Rank of Sgt.), Member Squadron #1, Civil Air Patrol 1946 to 1950 (Rank of 2nd Lt.). John was a longtime resident of New City beginning in 1923. A prominent business man, having owned and operated his own painting and decorating company in addition to operating the New City Garage for eleven years. John was also very active in his community serving as Town Clerk for the Town of Clarkstown from 1975 through 1978 and was most recently employed as Maintenance Mechanic/Supervisor for the Town of Clarkstown, retiring in 1983. Past Commander & Charter member DeBevoise Post 1682 American Legion. Past President & Engineer of the New City Fire Department where he was also an active member since 1947. John's Parents Thomas and Sarah (Nee Lynch) Bradley both Deceased. Sister Miriam Cordwell, Brothers Joseph, Thomas of NYC and Brother Raymond of Savannah, GA all deceased. His Wife Helen (Nee O'Toole) Deceased 1985. His current wife Betty M. (Nee Farkas) survives him along with his son Geoffrey Bradley his wife Beth and granddaughters Meaghan and Shannon. Daughter Judith Brodil-Perrella her husband Daniel, grandson Charles Brodil his wife Stefanie Jordan, Great granddaughters Charlotte and Maeve, granddaughter Jennifer Heinemann and her husband Frank, Great granddaughter Lily. John is also survived by step son Steven Farkas his wife Dagmar, grandson TJ and granddaughter Stephanie, step son David Farkas (deceased) and his wife Kim, grandson Shaun and granddaughter Katrina.
Visiting will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Sunday, May 21 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday, May 22 at St. Augustine Church in New City interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Nanuet.
